Planty Gift Buying Guide

Christine Kelso, MD, MPHComment

If you follow me on Instagram @workhardplanthard, you might be surprised to discover I didn’t know what the term “influencer” meant until well after I’d been regularly posting about my plant passions. Nowadays, one of the things I enjoy most is coming across high quality, innovative planty products sold by small companies and helping to promote them. Since it’s the time of year for gift giving, I thought I’d do a compilation of some of my favorites. These products make great gifts for any plant lover.

For those of you out there who aren’t plant collectors but have friends who are, I have a little advice. Don’t buy a plant collector more plants. They have a specific wish list and only so much room. Unless you’re familiar with their list you might cause them undo stress. They’ll feel obligated to find a spot and care for the plant you gave them, but at the same time worry about less space for their wish-list plants. Instead, consider these planty options instead. There’s something for every price point. Hope you enjoy!

Folia Collective wall hooks

Folia Collective carries my favorite hooks for hanging plants from any wall. Conserve space while adding to the aesthetics of your space. I especially love the brass option. Bonus: There’s many more gift options at Folia!

Veyali

My favorite scents for body and home.

I have fairly severe reactions, including headaches, to perfumes, but these products never give me any issues. The body scents are unisex, so just be careful your partner doesn’t steal yours.

Revival Ceramics strives for superior quality, highly functional planters while being as socially conscious as possible from start to finish. Their planters are all sized to plop in nursery pots or plant directly into. For example, the “four” fits a 4-inch nursery pot, so it’s a bit larger than 4 inches. Hamama

Give the gift that keeps on giving with Hamama microgreens grow kits. You can get your loved one a starter kit or even consider a yearly subscription for a year full of health. Bonus: Hamama is phasing out plastic shipping materials and recently started producing ceramic instead of plastic grow trays. I love supporting companies looking for innovative ways to reduce plastics! (Disclaimer: I am a Hamama affiliate.)

RT1 Home

RT1 makes so many great planty products, it’s tough to choose. But here are 3 of my favorite. The hangers can be used indoors or out. The potting tarp and prop cones come in several sizes:

Airplant Man

I had the pleasure of meeting Josh Rosen, the founder of @airplantman, this past spring. He’s taking his beautiful designs to the next level and has tons of gift options for all price points. They have a sale going on right now but in case you miss it, you can use code Planthard15 for 15% off the site.
